Workers demand Minimum Wage ... We need your support

Workers protest infront of Parliament
We need the public support to thrash this Bill. Tomorrow (Tues, 28 Jun) a very important Bill is going for second reading which concerns every worker in this country. Its the National Wage Consultative Council (NWCC) Bill - a crap bill where Human Resources Minister has total power to reject the recommendation from the Council on a minimum wage. He also has the power to choose who sits on the Council. What democracy is this???? Very very sakit hati (Very painful to our heart (the seat of our feelings) - Malay saying) :(((((

SUNGGOH SAKIT HATI UNTUK PEKERJA ... TIDAK ADA SAFETY NET LANGSUNG. (Very heartbreaking for workers ... no safety net at all)

"... Minimum wage of RM1,500 not enough ..."
Workers working in factories, transport workers, security guards, office cleaners - are becoming poorer by the day ... as prices of food, gas, electricity, tuition fees have increased and is increasing. There is no safety net for these workers. They are borrowing from Ah Longs, friends, relatives, banks ... what kind of a life do you think they are leading. An electronic worker from Kajang said to a reporter from Free Malaysia Today "I have to think 3 times if I should send my child for extra tuition". She says its very stressful. Even with her husband's salary their family of 5 (Parents and 3 kids) find it hard to get by. She said, "Even if they gave a minimum wage of RM1,500 its not enough. We would have to live without even buying clothes for our kids."

15Jun: Press Conference in Parliament Oppose NWCC Bill
Decent Living Wage
Workers need a decent living wage of between RM1,500 and RM2,000 per month. A decent living wage takes into account the food needed and the non-food items like rent, education of children, etc. A minimum wage only takes into account if worker is entering the job market and can sustain the person for a few months.

WORKERS DEMAND A DECENT LIVING WAGE.
